In Which: I live the Week of Dreams

It finally arrived! Thanksgiving break is nearly over, but it has been one of the funnest weeks! It started on Saturday afternoon when I finished my Parasitology exam. We packed up the Jeep with a week's worth of clothes, and Tilly! It was a bit snowy, but we made it up to Brigham City by 7:30 after we stopped at Costco, of course.

Just dancing

We stayed with Jared and Baylee along with Baylee's parents and brother, who were in town for the holiday week. We  played games and went to bed. We went to church with them on Sunday and were surprised to hear that Jared was called to be a High Counsellor. Everyone knew but us. It was fun to be there after meetings when he was ordained to be a High Priest for his stake. Games, dessert, sleep.

Monday was our 2-year anniversary!! Hooray! It may not seem like a long time, but the past two years have been big growing and learning years for us. I am so lucky to be married to such a great guy. Scott is smart, funny, caring, silly, hardworking, happy, and kind. He is the best at cheering me up and solving problems together with me. I'm pretty convinced there's nothing we can't conquer as a team.
Silly team

HA! I am a screenshot wizard.

On Monday we went to the USU campus to see the geology museum. We wandered a while (because Scott and I led the group astray), and then went to the creamery for ice cream (Pralines and Caramel) and cheese curds. We went back to Brigham City for more visiting, and to pack up to head to our hotel in Salt Lake, and a surprise dinner reservation (I was told to dress in my Sunday Best)! We checked into the Palace Room at the Anniversary Inn, and I told Scott to bring the car around for me. While he was gone, I pulled out my gift of a crocheted blanket and peanut M&Ms and put them on the bed for a surprise when we got back. Scott picked me up at the door, and we went off to The Roof Restaurant in downtown Salt Lake. It was a very fancy buffet with salad, seafood, pasta, meats, and soooo many desserts!! It was fancy and delicious and wonderful! I don't think I had ever felt so fancy and pampered. When we got back to the Palace, Scott was surprised to see the blanket I had made on the bed--I told him it was a gift for my friend Laura.

Here is Scott holding my finished product.. It looks a lot bigger in the picture than it seems
The funniest part of this project, was that apparently Meghan had been working on a very similar knitting pattern at the same time! Somehow, no matter what I do, my big sister's done it first!!

On Tuesday, we had to go retrieve some plants from Jared and Baylee's, and work on some Salem apartment applications, so after our fancy room service breakfast, and a lunch of cheesecake and sparkling cider, we trekked back to Brigham City. We visited again with the folks in Brigham City for a while, then left to keep our dinner reservations at a small sushi restaurant just South of Salt Lake. Itto Sushi was jam-packed. It was a very small restaurant with a very large party taking up most of the tables and servers. I was very hungry, and a little grumpy at the wait, but I closed my mouth when the kind servers bowed and offered us free salad and appetizers while we waited for our orders. They were very sweet and kind and I felt guilty for having a bad attitude. However, we all breathed a sigh of relief when the large, noisy birthday party left the restaurant. The food was delicious! We ordered 4 rolls, which was too much after our free appetizers, but I saved some to eat the next day. After our meal, the servers brought us a complimentary dessert of ice cream in a rice ball--different but very good and the perfect end to our meal. Back to the Anniversary Inn--this time to the Swiss Family Robinson room with a waterfall shower and a treehouse bed.

The Palace Room

I'm not much of a vandal, but I wanted to add to the tradition of the room. Can you spy S+C?

Wednesday morning came and we ate our fancy breakfast, watched a movie, and packed up. After our customary lunch of complimentary cheesecake and sparkling cider, we headed out for a drive, and then to wander at Costco. Arouund 3pm, we headed to cousin Melinda Whiteley's home in Salt Lake City to begin the Thanksgiving festivities! We began, of course, in the movie room. We watched our first Thanksgiving film and then emerged to cook our delicious pizza and breadsticks. After a tasty dinner, we went back down to watch our second film. Both movies centered around the theme of getting home for the holidays, which was a great way to get us in the spirit of the season.

Thursday we woke up and, after our favorite orange rolls for breakfast, went to gather Meghan from the airport. Hooray! I am so glad to be close to my sisters, and to have one of them back from Arizona to visit. We watched more movies, and attempted to help our hostess with the food preparations, but Melinda really did it all. When we came up from our movies, the table was spread beautifully with holiday plates, candles, and decorations, and the tastiest foods! All the right things were there, from the turkey to the yams. Aunt Barbara made our stuffing, and it was very perfect. After we cleaned up from the meal, we went back to the movie room to have our turkey-nap, and watch another movie (of course!). Meghan, who had only gotten 2 hours of sleep, had a snooze. Around 7:30, the Whiteley crew arrived. The table was full again, but this time there were chocolates, cookies, ice cream, cake, and pies! We all tried a little bit of everything. Unfortunately, Scott had to work on Friday, so Meghan and I drove him home, then returned to Salt Lake for more fun on Friday.

Friday was a good mix of productivity and relaxation. I was able to run a few errands, and even dip my toe into the Black Friday madness (just at Costco, which was pretty calm). Scott came back up after work, and we enjoyed leftover-sandwiches (not leftover sandwiches), and movies movies movies!! Scott and I both had to go home that evening for work and chores. Meghan stayed one more night with Melinda in Salt Lake, then came down to meet up for lunch on Saturday in Provo. We went to our favorite spot, visited, and got chores done, then met up in Salt Lake for an anything-but-American (we picked Chinese) dinner for our holiday finale.

Sunday--church with the crazy nursery hooligans and the new leaders, and a bit of visiting with some Jensen cousins (dinner and a drive to the "Christmas Mansions")

Monday--back to school and the fun surprises (extra projects and assignments...hooray). It's study central for the next 2 weeks... Wish me luck!!! Thank goodness we have tasty Thanksgiving leftovers to fill our fridge and our bellies, because I will probably not be doing much cooking between now and our moving day. (Sorry, Scott!)
