It is pretty crazy to realize that I will not be going back to Utah after the holidays. Provo isn't my dream home by any means, but I have lived there for four and a half years. I can't help but feel a bit sad. I lived a lot in those four and a half years, and now it is over. We left in such a hurry, I didn't even get to say goodbye, or drive around town and up the canyons before I left. We just drove away. Gone. And I was so exhausted from packing and loading the car that I just looked out the window as I drove and wondered if I should feel something. Shouldn't this last glance be burned in my memory? Shouldn't I be composing an emotional internal monologue while a montage of memories played on an imaginary silver screen? Probably. But all I could think was how much I wished the day would end.
I'll spare you the details of the packing and moving experience. Suffice it to say that it was a fairly painful and humbling experience. But it is all for the best. I am learning to survive the hard things, and I am just grateful to have a first-rate teammate.
My trusty Matilda. What a champ
Scott, my favorite teammate
I couldn't see out my windows. Tilly is under the green blanket, blocking my view
Now I live in a new and unfamiliar town with unfamiliar neighbors. Although I live closer to my hometown, and in a climate that looks and feels like home, I have rarely been to Salem. I might as well have moved to Mars. I don't think I realized how tricky it might be to learn the layout of a new town, especially after living the past four years on a strict grid system. I am out of practice with diagonals, and roads that have names instead of numbers. (For those of you who are scoffing at this, remember that Scott and I do not have smart phones, or internet in our apartment at this time..) This is definitely an adventure worthy of the Adventure Blog.
On a positive note, our apartment is wonderful! I am excited about our new space.

After moving in on Saturday, and continuing to unpack boxes on Sunday evening, today is Monday. Scott had a job interview at six o'clock, then my parents came to pick us up around seven-fifteen, and we left for California. Back in the car.
To be fair to the sleeping gentlemen, I later fell asleep with my eyes open. Thankfully no one took a photo.

I am writing this post from my hotel room in Westly, California. Tomorrow we will arrive at my grandparents' home in Costa Mesa for Christmas.
Merry Christmas, dear Reader! More news of the holiday adventures after we return to Salem.
Onward and upward.
